R2A Agar with TTC (Red Spot) Dipslide

The R2A Agar dipslide is a heterotrophic plate count test (for potable water testing, we recommend the more sensitive HPC samplers).

Water samples tested using R2A agar (culture medium) generally show an increased number of colonies once incubated. These slides are designed to detect / improve the recovery of slower growing species (e.g stressed / chlorine tolerant bacteria) unlike nutrient rich agars that can suppress them. Due to this, testing treated water with this agar allows for a more realistic bacterial count.

If there is bacterial contamination in your sample, colonies will grow on the dipslide. The colonies on this dipslide will grow as red spots making them easy to view and count.

Incubation times are 5-7 days at 20°C or 28°C, or for 3 days at 35°C.

How to use R2A dip slides

Step 1 : Remove slide

Carefully remove the sterile R2A dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination).

Step 2 : If Surface Testing

For surface testing, press the R2A dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure.

Step 2 : If liquid testing

For liquid testing, immerse the R2A dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds.

Step 2 : If swab testing

Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars.

Step 3 : Incubate Slide

Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate.

Step 4 : Compare results

Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided.

Each dipslide features a virtually unbreakable and flexible paddle allowing for even, full surface testing.

Easy Run Off Design

Due to the design of the dipslide, fluids will drain off quickly during testing.

Recessed Handle

Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing.

Side Indicator

One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant.

Dual Sided

Each dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test.

Thick Reliable Agar

Each agar is thick (approx 4mm) and raised above the dipslide to allow for easy surface testing.

Q	Does this test for Mycobacterium abscessus bacteria in water lines.
A	Many thanks for your enquiry from our website. I confirm that this should grow on R2A agar as part of the total count but cannot be identified. It is not specifically listed as supported, but R2A is a general growth medium. Please do not hesitate to come back with any further questions you may have.
Q	Hi, How often you would recommend to do the test in dental practice. Can I use your tests without incubator?
A	Testing regularity varies depending on local authority guidelines and as such is not something that we could advise on. An incubator is always recommended for dipslides as it provides a constant temperature which is required for accurate incubation.
