What is a microbiological dipslide

What is a DipSlide?

A dipslide is a simple tool used for microbiological monitoring. A dipslide has a paddle with an agar (ready to use growth / culture medium) on each side. The pre made agar makes a dipslide very convenient to use as you do not need to prepare your own culture media.

Each agar tests for a different group of micro organisms and will show growth if a particular contaminant is present in a sample. Dip-slides.com offer numerous agar combinations on our slides and you can even create your own using our 'Create your own' service.

Each slide comes in its own container. To test a sample for micro organisms, you simply remove the slide from its container and immerse the slide within the sample. You can also swab a sample onto the slide or use it to test a surface. Once the sample has been deposited on both agars, the slide needs to be placed back into its container and incubated to allow growth (if contamination is present). After the incubation period, the slide can be analysed using the comparison chart provided.

The level of contamination can be determined by the amount of microbial colonies that appear on the agar. Colonies generally form as distinct dots of different shapes and sizes. Contamination is measured in the amount of colony forming units per ml / cm2 that are on the dipslide. The charts provided feature images of dipslides with different levels of contamination to help you determine which image best matches the contaminated dipslide that you compare it to.

Dipslides are a user friendly, ready made solution for those in a variety of industries who need a convenient way of testing for contaminants in their products / environment.
