Poultry Dipslides Testing
Dipslides can be used to test both drinking water, poultry housing (floor and walls) and poultry transportation for the presence of bacteria.
You can either dip the slide in water, run it along surfaces or use a swab to transfer the sample on to the slide.
High levels of bacteria in poultry drinking water can cause bacterial diarrhoea and even blood poisoning if the bacteria leaks from damaged intestines.
Aerobic bacteria found in poultry housing can include E.coli, Staphylococcus, Pseudomona and Micrococcus among others. Contaminants can also contribute to harmful dust that can affect the respiratory systems of both the poultry and workers / owners.
Our SCT dipslides are ideal for testing both fluids and surfaces.
The SCT slide tests for coliforms on one side (a high level of coliform bacteria in water can indicate fecal contamination). Coliform bacteria are also often prevalent in poultry housing litter. The other side tests for total count (red spot dye) and can indicate the level of aerobic bacteria in poultry housing or water.
This listing and price is for 1 box which contains 10 slides.
Each dipslide features a virtually unbreakable and flexible paddle allowing for even, full surface testing.
Due to the design of the dipslide, fluids will drain off quickly during testing.
Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing.
One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant.
Each dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test.
Each agar is thick (approx 4mm) and raised above the dipslide to allow for easy surface testing.
How to use poultry dipslides
Testing drinking water
- Dip the slide in the water for approx 10 seconds
- Remove slide and allow to drain
- Replace the slide in its container and incubate for 24 - 48 hours
Testing poultry housing surfaces
- Press the dipslide along the surface that you wish to test for approx 10 seconds
- Replace the slide in its container and incubate for 24 - 48 hours
Carefully remove the sterile Poultry dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination).
For surface testing, press the Poultry dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure.
For liquid testing, immerse the Poultry dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds.
Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars.
Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate.
Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided.
You can team these dipslides with one of our incubators. We stock different sizes to suit the needs of all users. Our largest incubator (Ranger MX45) incubates up to 40 slides at once.
