About Our spray booth bacteria dipslides (box of 10)

Spray booth / water wash spray system dipslides for monitoring bacteria levels in overspray reservoir / troughs.

Why do I need to test paint spray booths for bacteria?

Paint sludge in spray booth reservoirs can become a breeding ground for bacteria that can impact health and increase the risk of legionella being present.

The moisture, temperature and nutrients in booth systems make them an ideal habitat for bacteria to survive and thrive. This can lead to multiple problems such as:

  • Negative health effects
  • Unpleasant odours
  • Equipment blockages / failure
  • Corrosion

As well as regularly cleaning booths and using biocides (if appropriate), a monitoring program to routinely test the levels of aerobic bacteria is a good way of mitigating any bacterial contamination issues.

Our aerobic bacteria dipslides will enable you to test microbial levels in the paint spray booth reservoirs. These dipslides measure a total bacteria count on both sides. If your sample contains bacteria, red spots / colonies will grow on the dipslide.

The dipslides are easy to use and simply require you to dip the slide into a liquid sample, allow to drain, incubate and then read and compare results with the chart provided. For full guidance on how to use our spray booth dipslides, see the pictorial step by step instructions below.

Recommended monitoring program

These recommendations are based on general guidance for water systems that are at risk of legionella contamination. For specific advice regarding water wash / paint spray booths, contact your local HSE office to confirm any legal requirements.

Test once a week

102-103 Low infection levels.
104 Moderate infection levels. Monitor and possibly re-test.
105  Above acceptable limit. Action required.
106+ High levels. Take action immediately.

Biocide review or system clean out may be required.

How to use the SBT2 dipslide

Simply remove the dipslide and immerse in the sample for approx 10 seconds. Remove dipslide and allow to drain (if necessary) for a few seconds, then replace the slide back into the tube and incubate for a minimum of 24 hours (up to a maximum of 48 hours).

A comparison chart is included so you can easily compare your results.

Remove Nutrient TTC slide from tube

Step 1 : Remove slide

Carefully remove the sterile Spray Booth dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination).

Surface testing

Step 2 : If Surface Testing (if you would like to test surfaces in the spray booth area)

For surface testing, press the Spray Booth dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure.

Liquid Testing

Step 2 : If liquid testing

For liquid testing, immerse the Spray Booth dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds.

Swab Testing

Step 2 : If swab testing

Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars.

Incubate the dipslide

Step 3 : Incubate Slide

Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate.

compare dipslide results

Step 4 : Compare results

Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided.

Spray Booth Dipslide Features

Recessed Handle

Recessed Handle

Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing.

Side Indicator

Side Indicator

One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant.

Dual sided paddle

Dual Sided

Each dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test.

Thick reliable Agar
