Looking for a larger incubator?
Our MX2 incubator is a great starter incubator for our kit and will meet the requirements of many cosmetics makers.
However, if you would prefer an incubator with a larger dipslide capacity ( 8 dipslides instead of 2), you can upgrade this kit to include an Orion MX8 dipslide incubator by using the dropdown. You can find more details on the Orion MX8 here: larger dipslide incubator.
About the Cosmetics dip slide test kit
Our cosmetic dipslides test for total count bacteria and yeasts and moulds. They have Tryptone Soya agar (TSA) on one side and Rose Bengal on the other. These slides are our most popular for testing makeup, lotions etc.
The Tryptone Soya side includes TTC which means that colonies appear as red dots making them easier to count. The Rose Bengal side has colonies that often appear as pink dots making these easy to count also (mould growth may show as fluffy / powdery colonies).
The GNAT MX2 incubator can incubate up to 2 dipslides at a time. It has a pre-set temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and after a short time of stabilisation (15-20 minutes), can be used straightaway.
This kit is at a special price that offers the buyer a significant saving over buying the items separately. This kit is convenient and is suitable for those that want to try the slides without buying a large volume.
Comparison / analysis charts are included.
All items can be purchased separately below. More information on each product can be found by clicking on the below images.
How to use the cosmetics dip slide kit
Making sure to wear sterile gloves, open the pouch and take out the swab
The swab end should only come into contact with the sample as to reduce a chance of cross contamination.
Carefully streak the sample onto one side of the dipslide then dispose of the swab.
Repeat the procedure using a new swab (do not use the same swab) and streak on the Rose Bengal (pink) side.
Incubate the dipslide for 24 - 48 hours. Growth will show on the 'total count' side (straw coloured) side within 24-48 hours.
Compare the dipslide against the comparison chart and record the amount of growth.

Hello, I purchase a kit from [external company name removed] & I am having trouble reading the results. I am looking for dip slides for cosmetics mostly herbal creams & lotions plus room sprays/body sprays. Also I need to able to understand what I am looking as I am finding it hard to understand how to count colonies etc.

Many thanks for your enquiry. I'm afraid we are unable to comment on how to read the results of other dipslide brands as they may use a different agar/neutralisers etc. Our supplied dipslide comparison chart shows the different levels of colony counts (https://dip-slides.com/Dipslide-comparison-chart.pdf) for our dipslides/agars. Here is a link to our Cosmetic dipslides, which are supplied in packs of 10 (https://dip-slides.com/cosmetic/35-cosmetic-dipslides-box-of-10.html).

Hi, Do you have to use these swabs on a sample for them to work, e.g. dip into a solution/cream, or could you swab them on a contaminated surface and still incubate the bacteria? Hoping to test the surfaces of devices for bacteria.

|
Hello, If you are testing a surface you can either swab the surface (then streak the sample over the agar) or you can gently press the dipslide directly onto the surface.
