The SC2 dipslide (plate count & macConkey 3) measures total count bacteria / viable organisms on one side and coliforms count on the other side.

Please note, the SCT dipslide is the more popular choice for this combination of agar and is a stock item. This SC2 dipslide (this slide) does not include TTC in the agar (to turn colonies red in colour) and as such, it is not as popular as the SCT dipslide.

About Our plate count (pca) + macconkey 3 dipslides (box of 10)

The SC2 dipslide features two different agars (culture medium), one on either side.

One side of the dipslide is plate count agar. This agar measures a total vaible count. The other side of the dipslide is MacConkey 3 agar. This agar measures a coliforms count. This dipslide is ideal for use in the food industry and where hygiene is of the upmost importance.

Plate Count Agar - Will show growth for viable organisms in food and water, in particular dairy products. This agar will offer a general count.

MacConkey 3 - This agar is selective for coliforms and will suppress non coliform bacteria. Coliforms are an indicator organism for hygiene levels, particularly in food safety.

If your test sample contains bacteria / coliforms then colonies will grow on the dipslide agar. You can then count these colonies and compare the amount with the chart provided to work out the level of contamination.

To use, you can either dip the slide into your sample, swab onto the dipslide or press the slide against a surface. Once your sample has been transferred onto the dipslide, you then incubate the dipslide. After incubation, you can then compare the colony count with the chart provided.

These total count / coliforms dipslides come in a pack size of 10 slides per box. The slide has a flexible paddle and is within a shatterproof container.

How to use the SC2 dipslide

Simply remove the dipslide and immerse in the sample for approx 10 seconds. Remove dipslide and allow to drain for a few seconds, then replace the slide back into the tube and incubate for a minimum of 24 hours (up to a maximum of 48 hours).

Remove Plate Count / MacConkey 3 slide from tube

Step 1 : Remove slide

Carefully remove the sterile Plate Count / MacConkey 3 dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination).

Surface testing

Step 2 : If Surface Testing

For surface testing, press the Plate Count / MacConkey 3 dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure.

Liquid Testing

Step 2 : If liquid testing

For liquid testing, immerse the Plate Count / MacConkey 3 dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds.

Swab Testing

Step 2 : If swab testing

Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars.

Incubate the dipslide

Step 3 : Incubate Slide

Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate.

compare dipslide results

Step 4 : Compare results

Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided.

SC2 Dipslide Features

Flexible paddle

Flexible Paddle

Each dipslide features a virtually unbreakable and flexible paddle allowing for even, full surface testing.

Easy run off design

Easy Run Off Design

Due to the design of the dipslide, fluids will drain off quickly during testing.

Recessed Handle

Recessed Handle

Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing.

Side Indicator

Side Indicator

One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant.

Dual sided paddle

Dual Sided

Each dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test.

Thick reliable Agar

Thick Reliable Agar

Each agar is thick (approx 4mm) and raised above the dipslide to allow for easy surface testing.

Customer Questions

Q

Are these dipslides suitable to use to perform passive air sampling?

A

Yes, you could take the dip slide out of the tube and place it back in upside down (so only the handle/lid is in the plastic tube and the agar is exposed to the air). We suggest an air sample time of 15 minutes before returning the dipslide back into the tube for incubation (unless other sampling time is required). No contact with the agar should be made as this will contaminate the slide.
