About Our plate count (pca) + oxytetracycline glucose yeast extract (ogye) (neutralisers) dipslides (box of 10)

The PO dipslide features two different agars (prepared culture medium). It has Plate Count Agar on one side and OGYE Agar on the other side. This dipslide tests for total viable count and yeasts and moulds (fungi). The PO dipslide also contains neutralisers for disinfectants present in the sample, this provides accurate readings in such tests.

Plate Count Agar - PCA is a general growth medium used to provide a 'total count' / detect viable organisms in food and water. Mainly used in dairy testing.

OGYE Agar - This agar contains an antibiotic called Oxytetracycline. Due to this, the dipslide should not be incubated at temperatures above 25 degrees Celcius. OGYE agar detects yeasts and moulds in food.

If the sample that you are testing has bacteria, yeasts or moulds in, colonies will grow on the dipslide. To intepret your results, you will need to count the colonies and compare with the included chart.

PO Dipslide Applications:

  • Food safety
  • Dairy
  • Cleaning regime checks

These dipslides come in a pack size of 10 slides per box. The slide has a flexible paddle and is within a shatterproof container.

How to use the PO dipslide

Simply remove the dipslide and immerse in the sample for approx 10 seconds. Remove dipslide and allow to drain for a few seconds, then replace the slide back into the tube and incubate for a minimum of 24 hours (up to a maximum of 120 hours).

A comparison chart is included so you can easily compare your results.

Remove Plate Count / OGYE slide from tube

Step 1 : Remove slide

Carefully remove the sterile Plate Count / OGYE dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination).

Surface testing

Step 2 : If Surface Testing

For surface testing, press the Plate Count / OGYE dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure.

Liquid Testing

Step 2 : If liquid testing

For liquid testing, immerse the Plate Count / OGYE dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds.

Swab Testing

Step 2 : If swab testing

Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars.

Incubate the dipslide

Step 3 : Incubate Slide

Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate.

compare dipslide results

Step 4 : Compare results

Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided.
